A MOOC to train health professionals on the signs of child abuse

Jean-Luc Gleyze, president of the Department of Gironde, Marie-Claude Agullana, vice-president in charge of child protection and Jacques Raynaud, departmental adviser in charge of access to care, will launch the MOOC on March 1 at 5 p.m. , in the presence of their partners and the press. This launch will also be streamed, link on request.

Why this MOOC?

After the success of the MOOC intended for child protection professionals (6,000 people already registered), the Department’s services wanted to enable health professionals to find the keys to better detect child abuse. Indeed, these professionals, nurses, doctors, childcare workers… express that they are not sufficiently trained on this issue to better identify it. There is a risk of underestimating or misunderstanding these situations, which could lead to inappropriate care for children, a risk of recurrence, or even, in the worst cases, death.

This MOOC is therefore intended to better explain how the child protection chain works : from worrying information to the reporting procedure, and to situate it in the medical context, also allowing professionals to better identify children at risk.

The content of the MOOC

Made up of 85 videos, about ten articles and exercises, this MOOC addresses many themes brought by 17 speakers :

  • How to prevent or detect shaken baby situations? Domestic violence? School bullying?
  • How to detect sexual, physical and psychological violence?
  • What work with the parents?
  • How to distinguish usual and non usual medical procedures?
  • Which medical acts require the consent of one or both parents? Of the child?
  • In what situation can/should a healthcare professional lift professional secrecy?
  • What are the missions of the police, the gendarmerie, the judge in situations in which the health of the child is endangered?

The 10h30 training are punctuated with optional tabs allowing you to deepen the topics covered. Operating by session, the tabs can be consulted at any time. It is also possible for professionals to obtain a certificate of achievementthus validating their knowledge and hours of training.
