A Mazda premiere – New diesel engine for the CX-60 model

Following the recent launch of the new Mazda CX-60 PHEV, the company announced that a new e-Skyactiv engine will also be available.

The Mazda CX-60 e-Skyactiv D will benefit from a completely new 3.3-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine. It is available in variants of 200 hp / 147 kW and 254 hp / 187 kW – with up to 550 Nm, WLTP consumption and low emissions of 4.9 l / 100 km, respectively 127g / km.

In total, over the next three years, Mazda will launch five new electrified products that showcase its multi-solution platform architecture. After 2025, the company will launch its new Skyactiv EV Scalable Architecture – a unique technology that will allow Mazda to efficiently build electric cars of all sizes using a single common platform.

The diesel propulsion system is a first Mazda – a new 3.3-liter in-line six-cylinder e-Skyactiv D diesel engine. Developed using the concept of “right sizing”, which optimizes cylinder capacity to improve both fuel efficiency and power generated, the new e-Skyactiv D six-cylinder unit with direct rail common injection, 3,283 cc, installed longitudinally, will be offered with a range of two options – 200 hp / 147 kW with rear-wheel drive and 254 hp / 187 kW with Mazda i-Activ AWD (all-wheel drive).

Featuring the new 48-volt Mazda M Hybrid Boost system, the new diesel engine combines high power with excellent fuel economy. An innovative and advanced fuel technology – DCPCI (Distribution-Controlled Partially Premixed Compression Ignition) – further improves engine efficiency, reduces emissions and increases fuel economy, reaching a thermal efficiency of over 40%.

The 254 hp / 187 kW e-Skyactiv D engine delivers impressive performance and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 219 km / h, ensuring an average WLTP consumption of just 5 , 3 l / 100 km and CO2 emissions of only 137 g / km while the 200 hp / 147 kW variant ensures an average WLTP consumption of only 4.9 l / 100 km and CO2 emissions of only 127 g / km .

Available in most European markets, the new Mazda CX-60 diesel will go on sale in January 2023

The in-line six-cylinder format produces less vibration due to its characteristic “perfect balance” for a smooth and quiet ride, while providing a clean and captivating engine sound.

The delivery of high engine torque gives the CX-60 a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kg and, due to its simple structure, the weight of the engine is similar to that of a 2.2-liter Mazda Skyactiv D four-cylinder diesel engine, thus reducing the difference in maneuverability.

An in-line 3-cylinder e-Skyactiv petrol engine will join e-Skyactiv D and e-Skyactiv PHEV to complete the Mazda CX-60 range at a later date, offering customers a wide range of technologically advanced running, highly efficient, suitable for the remarkable levels of mastery and technology offered by the CX-60 range.

With the launch of the CX-60, Mazda takes another important step in reducing its fleet’s emissions on its way to a carbon-neutral footprint by 2050.

In 2023, the company will launch a new model, the Mazda CX-80, which is larger than the Mazda CX-60 and has three seats.
