A man was bitten to death by a rabid domestic dog

(PLO)- The man was bitten by a domestic dog with rabies, many months later died.

On the afternoon of July 16, information from the Department of Health said that Dong Nai had just recorded one more death due to being bitten by a domestic dog. The victim is Mr. TVP (35 years old, living in Song Trau commune, Trang Bom district).

Before that, on December 17, 2022, the dog of Mr. P’s family, who had not been vaccinated against rabies, showed aggressive signs and biting people, so the family chained up. More than 10 days later, the dog was released from the leash and attacked the owner’s family including Mr. P and his wife and 2 children.

After that, Mr. P.’s family and the surrounding people searched for and destroyed the dog during the day. However, only his wife and 2 children were vaccinated against rabies, and Mr. P was not vaccinated.

About 6 months later, on 12-7, Mr. P. showed signs of rabies such as anorexia, vomiting, muscle pain, fear of water, fear of wind, fear of light, chest tightness and difficulty breathing.

On the morning of July 13, Mr. P was admitted to the emergency room at Thong Nhat General Hospital, was diagnosed with cerebral rabies and transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases for monitoring and treatment.

However, the next day the family member asked to return and the patient died the same day.

Thus, this is the second case of an outbreak of rabies dog transmission to humans in Song Trau commune and the third outbreak in Trang Bom district from the beginning of 2023 to present.
