A major accident left thousands of Sofia residents without hot water. The main heat pipeline of the first city highway was damaged. It passes along Maria Luisa Blvd., which necessitates the suspension of heat supply in the central part of the city in the carriage between: Maria Luisa Blvd .; Veslets Street, Serdika Street; Dondukov Blvd .; Knyaz Alexander I Street; Gurko Street; 6 September Street; Graf Ignatiev Street; Patriarch Evtimiy Blvd., Samuil St., Alabin St., Hristo Botev Blvd.
The necessary organization for the work of the emergency groups has been created and the heat supply is expected to be restored within 72 hours.
The heating pipeline supplies the central city part of Sofia, about 1060 subscriber stations, announced Toplofikacia Sofia EAD.
The damaged heating pipeline has been in operation since 1957. It was last reconstructed in 2000. Since then, it has not been repaired, only partially repaired accidents. The last one was in 2019.
In the area of ”Lion’s Bridge” the heat pipeline descends 18 meters below the river and is in a passable collector. It is constantly filled with running groundwater.
Despite the operation of the installed drainage pumps, due to the constant humidity, the heat pipe depreciates faster. This is the reason for the accident.
The teams of Toplofikacia Sofia will work until its complete removal.
