A lot of stress and gloom in the city, municipality starts campaign to help

As of today, the municipality is starting a campaign for people suffering from stress and gloom due to the corona crisis. The campaign is called ‘at first sight’ and is aimed at Amsterdammers between the ages of 18 and 35 who are struggling with mental problems due to corona.

The aim of the campaign is to get the conversation about mental health going, but also to provide concrete tools that young Amsterdammers can use themselves.

Research by RIVM, GGD / GHOR and the GGD shows that the corona crisis has a major influence on how people feel. The research asks how at four different moments
they experience the corona measures. This shows that one in six participants from Amsterdam feels seriously lonely. In addition, a quarter to a third of the participants indicate that they have been suffering more from psychosocial complaints, such as sleep problems, anxiety and gloom, since the corona crisis.

The campaign shows photos of young Amsterdammers who are doing well at first glance, but in voice memos they candidly tell how they are doing. Some of them sleep poorly or are concerned about their parents. Among the issues discussed, viewers are also pointed to tips, guides and free courses that are too available.

Well-known Amsterdammers

City vlogger Doke Hoeksma participates in the campaign, who says that she has had a burnout and is sometimes afraid of running too fast again. Filmmaker and musician Yve Baya can also be seen in the campaign. He says it is difficult to find a balance between rest and bustle because it is always all or nothing with him. The campaign will be distributed via social media.
