A little history

Located in the city center of Les Sables d’Olonne, the Saint-Joseph hospital was founded on 1is April 1647 by Madame GANDEMER. Despite some improvements, the size and comfort of the hospital are deemed insufficient by the municipality and the charity office.

A new hospital was built in the area defined by avenue d’Aquitaine and boulevards Ampère, Pasteur and Laplace. It bears the name of Doctor GODET, surgeon in Les Sables d’Olonne, who died in 1908, and was inaugurated on April 30, 1911. Several pavilions and buildings were built or refurbished over the years, including a Maternity in 1976. Two houses of “Les Roses” medical retreats in 1987 and “Les Tamaris” in 1990, were opened in order to meet the needs of the population, then “Les Maisonnée de Lumière” in 2000.
The Côte de Lumière Hospital Center on the Aquitaine site was put into service in December 1990. A home for disabled adults, the GODET Residence, located in ZAC de la Garlière in Olonne sur mer, opened in 1996.

In 2006, the Clinique du Val d’Olonne and the Center Hospitalier Côte de Lumière adopted a joint detailed medical and technical program aimed at unifying these two structures in a single public-private health center located on the Vannerie site in Olonne. by sea. The Clinique du Val d’Olonne moved in January 2010 to become the Clinique Porte Océane (CPO) and the new Hospital Center opened in November 2011.
