CHELSEA, QC, Jan. 18, 2021 / CNW Telbec / – Economic development Canada for the regions of Quebec (DEC)

Globally, tourism was one of the first industries affected by the pandemic; it will also be one of the last to be able to resume its rhythm at full speed. A pillar of the Canadian economy which generates $ 102 billion annually and represents 4% of all jobs (the equivalent of 1.8 million workers), tourism is a major vector of diversification and economic development.

Entrepreneurs in this sector – mostly made up of SMEs – have shown resilience, creativity and adaptability since the start of the crisis. To support them, the government of Canada, through Economic Development Canada for the regions of Quebec (DEC), responds with a contribution of $ 1 million in support of tourism in the Outaouais.

Help tourism organizations get through the crisis

Since the start of the crisis, the Canadian government has supported organizations in the tourism industry, in particular through the Regional Assistance and Recovery Fund (FARR), deployed in Quebec by CED and its collaborators. Remember that the FARR made it possible to offer financing and technical support to businesses and organizations in order to help them maintain their activities. Thus, with the help of the Community Futures Development Corporations (SADC), Business Assistance Centers (CAE) and PME MTL, 1,167 organizations in the tourism sector in Quebec were supported through the FARR. , for a total of over $ 44 million in contributions. Thanks to this measure, some 9,400 jobs have been maintained.

The deputy of Pontiac and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry (Science), William Amos, on behalf of the Honorable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, today announced a repayable contribution of $ 1 million from the Government of Canada to Nordik Spa-Nature, which will allow the company to rehire 121 employees in the short term Chelsea and consolidate its operations for its continued growth.

The tourism industry, which plays a crucial economic, social and cultural role in communities, is an essential link in regional economic development. Through these supports, the government of Canada demonstrates its commitment to prepare the ground for the post-pandemic to rebuild a stronger, more resilient and fairer economy for all.

“I am delighted with the support announced today for one of the attractions that are among the pillars of the Outaouais. This is extremely valuable since it will also help consolidate an accommodation project in the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais. Since the start of this crisis, listening to our federal partners regarding the difficulties of the tourism industry has been greatly appreciated. “

“Before the pandemic, our company had a multitude of projects in development in Canada, several of which we have had to put on hiatus since March. The repayable contribution obtained from this program is welcome to help us cover the expenses already incurred in ongoing growth and operational improvement projects.
