a jazz trio between France and Italy

Invalid Scald ID.

Les Belles Écouteuses concerts invite you to meet on Saturday at 7 p.m., with the trio formed by Gabriel Bismut (violin, viola), Maurizio Minardi (accordion) and Maurizio Congiu (double bass), for a repertoire “between France and Italy “

As soon as he graduated in jazz violin at the regional conservatory (CRR) of Boulogne-Billancourt, Gabriel Bismut played with jazz musicians of national and international renown such as Antonio Ciacca and Carine Bonnefoy. He has given more than two hundred concerts in France and in Europe.

The Italian Maurizio Minardi graduated in piano, organ and composition at the “Conservatorio Martini” in Bologna. He perfected his practice through the workshops of experienced artists and turned to composition and musical arrangement. The French violinist and Italian accordionist-pianist have been collaborating since 2017 in a project that serves the instruments characteristic of music from their countries of origin.

Homage to Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Astor Piazzolla and Jacques Brel…

One the violin and viola, the other the accordion and the piano. Composers and improvisers, Gabriel Bismut and Maurizio Minardi found in jazz – a subject conducive to interbreeding – an “ideal territory for the meeting of these two musics”, explain the organizers.

In search of French and Italian traces in world music, they color their music with the colors of tango and Latin waltzes and draw inspiration from the melodies of film music. They folded this repertoire in trio format by associating their instruments with Maurizio Congiu’s double bass. A Sardinian musician with whom the two have already collaborated. The three musicians will alternate compositions, original arrangements, which pay homage to Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Astor Piazzolla and Jacques Brel.

After more than two years spent working and performing together in France, Italy and England, Gabriel Bismut and Maurizio Minardi are preparing a shared album of personal compositions which will be released in a few weeks, under the artistic direction of Marc Berthoumieux.
