Prepare meals, medicate, help with the toilet, provide psychological support … In France, 8 to 11 million caregivers provide daily support to a loved one with a loss of autonomy, very old or disabled, some with serious illnesses . This Tuesday, October 18th, the palliative care department of the Risle hospital in Pont-Audemer (Eure) organize a great day dedicated to listening to caregivers.

From 8:30 to 17, in the Salle d’Armes, in Pont-Audemer, several conferences it will be led by health and medical-social workers. In the presence of the managing director of the Pont-Audemer hospital, Nicolas Vilain, the president of the establishment medical commission (CME), Messaoud Ferdjani, and the Eure director of the regional health agency, Philippe Luccioni-Michaux, this day it is free and open to the public.

The program of the day

From 9:30 to 10:00, Clemente Gioia, head of the palliative care unit of the Pont-Audemer hospital, will answer the question “What is a caregiver?” “. From 10:00 to 10:45, Valeria Prevost, a psychologist from Bernay Hospital, will discuss the impact of “help” and serious illness on family relationships. From 11:15 to 12:15 a study will be presented on the offer and the needs of respite in Normandy. From 12:15 to 12:45 the public will be able to attend the testimony of Armelle Vulliez. The afternoon will be dedicated, from 2 pm, to the presentation of existing aid in the Pont-Audemer area in support of health workers, but also of the Bernay-Pont-Audemer truce platform. Because being a caregiver requires a lot of energy, so much so that your personal well-being is often put on hold. “Some are salaried and become salaried after their working day. As a result, they get tired, are often isolated and neglect their health, “notes Clémence Joly.

Finally, around 4 pm, the day will end with a round table of reflection to answer this question: how to improve support for caregivers in the area?

Day dedicated to listening to caregivers, Tuesday 18 October, from 8:30 am, in the Salle d’Armes, Place du Général de Gaulle, in Pont-Audemer. FREE ENTRANCE.
