Since 1972, astronauts have not stepped on the Moon again. That makes the samples collected by the Apollo 17 mission a valuable treasure from which a new facet has been discovered. A group of researchers was able to observe individually the atoms of a single grain of lunar dust thanks to a new technique known as atomic probe tomography, which will provide a detailed view of the composition of the lunar soil and facilitate future missions to the Moon. According to the researchers, a tiny grain of lunar soil contains millions of years of history.
