Gang of New York returns as a new television series, produced and directed by Martin Scorsese, among others. The director, in charge of directing the 2002 film of the same name, will be in charge of directing the first two episodes of this project which will adapt one of the most violent and brutal periods in New York City and its criminal organizations.
In 2002 it debuted Gang of New Yorkknown in the territories of Latin America as New York bands, a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and legendary four-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis. The film is set in the 1860s and tells the story of a group of gangs from different backgrounds struggling for power in New York.
The film is an adaptation of the book. The gangs of New York written by Herbert Asbury and published in 1927. Likewise, the new series of Gang of New York It will be an adaptation of the same book, focusing on new characters who didn’t appear in the 2002 film, so we shouldn’t expect to see DiCaprio again, much less Daniel Day-Lewis, who retired from acting in 2017.
The first time there was talk of a series of Gang of New York It was 2013 and Scorsese was also part of that project. At the time, the director said that “this time in the history of the United States and its legacy is very rich in characters and stories that we could not have explored in just a 2 hour film”.
