A game in which everything goes wrong for SV Rödinghausen

The Wiehen regional league lost 1-0 to KFC Uerdingen. Seung-Won Lee misses a penalty, followed immediately by a goal.

In the games of SV Rödinghausen in the regional league, only one goal has been scored regularly in recent weeks – the only question is on which side. After the 1-0 win against Preußen Münster, the 0-1 win against RW Oberhausen and the 1-0 win at VfB Homberg, the number one was in the wrong place again this time. Against KFC Uerdingen 05 it was 0:1 (0:1) at the end of an overall disappointing performance.

Coach Carsten Rump’s team found it difficult from the start against the guests from Krefeld, who were in serious danger of relegation. Rödinghausen, on the other hand, found more access to the action in the middle of the first half because the game now worked better on the wings. In the 25th minute, the hosts had their first big chance to score the lead. Patrick Choroba made a low pass from the right and Damjan Marceta and Seung-Won Lee passed the ball to Vincent Schaub, who was half-left in front of goalkeeper Jovan Jovic, but he failed. Jovic also stood in the way of a possible SVR goal in the 33rd minute when he intercepted a poorly placed Marceta header from five yards.

Long waiting time before taking the penalty

Five minutes later, Rödinghausen finally seemed to be able to crack the guests’ defensive department. After a corner kick that Jovic punched from the goal line onto Schaub’s foot, he was fouled by Uerdinger Justin Neiß in the penalty area and a penalty was awarded. Lee took care of the matter, but had to wait almost two minutes before executing it because the two players involved in the duel initially had to leave the pitch, stricken. This seemed to have been anything but conducive to the shooter’s concentration, as Lee threw the ball well over the goal in the best manner of Uli Hoeneß in the 1976 European Championship final (39′).

And it should be even thicker for the Rödinghauser. During the next counterattack, after a mistake by Julian Wolff, the ball landed in the center of defense at KFC attacker Levan Kenya, who ran alone towards SVR goalkeeper Alexander Sebald and crossed it to Shun Terrada, who had run with him, and who only had to insert the empty goal to make it 0:1 (40th).

A minute before the break, Kenya was back in the spotlight. He kicked Schaub in the center circle and was sent off with a red card by referee Francisco Lahora Chulian from Bonn. Rödinghausen now had more than half time to turn the game around. But in the majority, the SVR could think of very little against the passionately defending Uerdinger with two closely positioned chains of four. Although the action almost only took place in half of the guests, there were no longer any compelling chances to score. The only danger in the final phase was shots from the second row, although Niklas Wiemann was unlucky in the 77th minute when he hit the crossbar from 20 meters. Ultimately, the people of Uerding were able to celebrate a “perhaps somewhat fortunate but not undeserved victory”, as their coach Alexander Voigt put it.

“Compared to the game against Munster this time it was worlds apart”

On the other hand, SVR coach Rump was of course very disappointed: “I don’t want to say that the team didn’t want to, but how little action we got towards the goal was just not good. The minutes around the goal were really awesome. At first you think, now things are going the way you imagine, then you let the penalty go and in return we put the thing on for Uerdingen ourselves. In the second half we had a lot of simple bad passes and didn’t manage to get behind the defence. Compared to the game against Munster this time there were worlds in between. It bothers me when I have the feeling that I haven’t tried everything, we’ll work through that.” And finally he turned to his fellow coach Voigt in a sporting manner: “You really fought for it and deserved the win!”
