A former minister pointed out who is afraid of judicial reform – 2024-02-21 08:35:01

The reform of the judicial system continues, and this leads to nervousness of people who are affected by the process, believes the MP from “We continue the change-Democratic Bulgaria” and former Minister of Justice Nadezhda Yordanova.

“In my opinion, the will became clear that this time the reform will be completed to the end. This made certain people nervous. In my opinion, an attempt is being made to cover traces, to settle accounts. At the moment, the responsibility of both the judiciary and the us politicians, all judicial bodies, let everyone do their job,” Yordanova told BNT.

“What has happened in recent days illustrates why judicial reform is necessary and actually shows in one big case many of the things and arguments we have been talking about. Judicial reform is in the process of happening. We have always said that amendments to the Constitution are the first a step necessary for radical judicial reform. We are about to adopt the new law on the judiciary, the amendments to the procedural laws. It also became clear why the closure of the Specialized Court and Prosecutor’s Office was necessary. We were ridiculed that this was not necessary. It turned out that this step was very important to be able to break addictions and dark networks in the judiciary,” she added.

Nadezhda Yordanova admitted that she knew about some of the facts and circumstances of the pressure exerted on the judicial system.

“I knew about some of the facts and circumstances. Everyone in the system knew a part of what was happening, but simply did not make an effort. We have to see why. The threat against judge Tsarigradska has been known since 4 years ago, but why was it not for so long “There was a vigorous investigation. It was very well known that special intelligence tools were being misused in the Specialized Court and Prosecutor’s Office. Why was no action taken when 47% of SRS requests were being resolved,” Yordanova asked.

Nadezhda Yordanova said that the memorandum that PP-DB proposed to GERB-SDS was not an ultimatum, but a consequence of the consistent policy of the coalition. She also said that the document can be discussed and is not a final option.

“This document, the memorandum does not exhaust all elements of management, it will be accompanied by a legislative program and a management program, which as far as we know in the Council of Ministers are at a high level of readiness. We have presented to colleagues from GERB-SDS a draft of memorandum, this is our position, our proposal,” Yordanova pointed out.

The MP also commented that the personnel composition of the Council of Ministers after the rotation will be at the discretion of Prime Minister Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister Gabriel.
