a flying budget and delays in delivery

On the site of the municipal gymnasium and the Jean-Burger room, work is going well. After the demolition and asbestos removal carried out at the end of 2020, the reconstruction of the site has been launched since May 2021. “At the moment, we are preparing all the networks under the paving, that is to say the arrival and evacuation of water. and electricity, ”explains Brigitte Schneider, deputy mayor responsible for works, villages and patriotic associations.

Re-evaluated equipment

No notable event to report concerning the good performance of the work, therefore. It is different on the financial side of the project. From an initial budget of 6.5 million euros excluding tax, the amount of work on the gymnasium and the Jean-Burger room now stands at 9.276 million euros excluding tax. According to the town hall, this increase is due to “the explosion in the cost of raw materials” due to the Covid, resulting in an increase of 1.5 million euros. A supplementary budget making changes is expected to be voted on at the next city council. The equipment was also reassessed. “Qualitatively, we have mounted the services,” says Pierre Cuny, the mayor of Thionville. This is particularly the case for the part of the gymnasium devoted to GRS.

Additional grants

According to the municipality, this additional cost is nevertheless amortized by the granting of additional subsidies. They now amount to 600,000 euros for the region, 1.2 million euros for the State and 2.5 million euros for the department. “To date, we are at 4.4 million euros in grants, says Pierre Cuny, but we are still looking for more. ”

Regarding delivery times, the Covid also upset the initial schedule. “The launch of the calls for tenders was slightly postponed and the designation of companies could only take place in January 2021”, explains Deputy Mayor Brigitte Schneider. Hence a delay of about 6 months on the initial schedule, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2023 instead of the end of 2022.
