A first festival to discover children’s books

The first Children’s Book Festival took place on Saturday, May 29 in the courtyard of the media library, at the Simone-Enriquez space. Three authors and illustrators were invited: Sylvie Clain, originally from Calvisson, as well as the famous Laurent Audouin and Geoffroy de Pennart. They engaged in a book signing all day. The bookstores L’Eau Vive and Pop-up et Cie, in Nîmes, sold the books.

“Bringing children together with authors is an asset in bringing them into the world of reading”, says Claire Boulicault, the librarian.

And many children came to buy and be signed a work by authors that they were able to discover during the school year during workshops. This festival also allowed them to rediscover the fun activities of the media library, which rediscovered the joys and laughter of children.

“Parents and children are there, it is a great satisfaction. I thank the staff of the media library and the volunteers for the organization”, announced Isabelle Mazay, cultural assistant, at the origin of this project. The municipality has chosen to invite renowned youth authors for this first festival. A beautiful sunny day that attracted a lot of people.

“A positive result. I am happy that the cultural world can resume. We can already see the difference on the happy faces”, concluded the mayor, Jean-Luc Chailan.
