Roman Syrek graduated from the Music School in Krosno, then the Music Academy in Katowice. He was the winner of the main prize in the Zlota Tarka jazz improvisation competition in 1981, a member of the Radio and Television Orchestra in Warsaw, Studio S-1 conducted by Andrzej Trzaskowski.
The musician died on the night of November 29-30, at the age of 69.
Roman Syrek played, among others, on stage together with Ewa Bem and Lora Szafran. According to the portal krosno24.pl, from 1980 to 1983 he was a teacher at the 1st and 2nd degree Music School in Krosno, where he trained students in the class of trombone, accordion and piano. A jazz band was running there. He was also the head of the wind instruments section.
For years he lived with his wife in Australia, where he taught accordion and trombone. In recent years, he has given concerts in Krosno, among others with Iwo Dixie Jazz Band as well as Łukaszewicz Jazz Combo.
It is sad, because my friend Roman Syrek – multi-instrumentalist, related to Jasło for some time, died. He was born in Zimna Woda. In Jasło, he studied at the Music School, played in bands and the Parish Church as an organist.
