A fake Facebook page in the name of the Minister of Health fools Internet users

A few dozen Internet users were fooled on Wednesday by the posting of a fake Facebook page in the name of Minister of Health Christian Dubé.

Entitled “Christian Dubé MSSS”, the page that appeared online on March 14 uses the official photo of the Minister of Health on the National Assembly website to cover itself with a veneer of legitimacy. It has less than 100 subscribers.

The joke behind the false page, however, attracted the attention of hundreds of Internet users, Wednesday afternoon, by announcing that the payments of membership fees to professional orders by health personnel, which had to be paid no later than on March 15, will be reimbursed in order to “recognize their immense contribution”.

Several Internet users welcomed the news by thanking the “minister”, while others did not get caught by the fake page and denounced it.

No announcement on membership fees for professional orders has been made by the Department of Health and Social Services to date.

The forger behind the page also mocked the Coalition Avenir Quebec by pointing out that it is possible to consult the party’s program on the site of the Conseil du patronat du Québec.

The minister’s real page, called “Christian Dubé – Member of Parliament for La Prairie”, has more than 8,000 subscribers and is authenticated by Facebook using a small blue check mark.
