These are rather atypical images that were taken during the New York City Marathon which took place last week. A rather particular participant mingled with the other runners: Wrinkle, a Peking duck. The one-year-old duck has prepared well for the race. The animal even had small shoes adapted for its webbed paws. On social networks, the videos of his race but also of his preparation have melted the hearts of Internet users.
Wrinkle therefore participated in the race among the 33,000 registered runners. The animal, however, did not run the whole test but still achieved a race of 800 meters as reported Runnerworld.com. Her masters, Justin Wood and Joyce Kung were present to coach her. The latter are circus artists and had bought eggs to hatch them as part of a project. Thus was born Wrinkle on September 9, 2020 in Kentucky in the United States.
To prepare the duck for the race, her masters made small running shoes suitable for her so that she does not get injured on the asphalt. These are neoprene slippers, the same material as for diving suits. Her adoptive parents also made sure that the duck was not too surrounded by other runners so as not to risk being run over. Now Wrinkle has returned home to regain her strength before the next race, who knows!
