The 30 Million Friends Foundation denounces an “inadmissible backtrack”. In question : a decree issued on March 17 which allows you to sell your animal to a laboratory.
“Until now, animals used in experimental procedures have had to have been bred for this purpose and come from approved breeders or suppliers. Exceptions are only possible when the production of approved breeders is insufficient or does not suit the specific needs of the project “, Recalls the animal protection association in a statement.
The decree of March 17 removes this constraint. “It’s the door open to the worst!” Hunting dog farms, individuals, anyone can sell their animal to a laboratory, ”warns Christiane Laupie, secretary general and founder of the scientific committee Pro Anima, partner of the 30 Million Friends Foundation, cited in the press release.
86% of French people against animal testing
According to the association, this decree is contrary to the European directive of September 22, 2010, relating to the protection of animals used for scientific purposes, which governs the provenance of animals promised for testing.
“The government has forced us to go back more than 30 years,” protested Reha Hutin, president of 30 Million Friends. The foundation recalls that 86% of French people oppose animal testing, when alternatives are available, according to its Ifop 2020 barometer.
The foundation now fears that this decree will encourage “an enormous traffic in dogs stolen from their owner to be sold to laboratories, as was the case in the past”.
