Regensburg.Bernd Bleffert from Trier calls his sound installations “because of little things…”. They are set up in the donumenta Art Lab platform 1, the former pedestrian underpass at Regensburg Central Station. In the old, around 60 meters long, dark, somewhat inhospitable place under the train tracks, it is especially the quiet and unusual installations that sometimes have a hard time resisting the rolling and rattling of trains on the tracks, the loud announcements for the passengers in a hurry and the everyday , aboveground hustle and bustle.

The title “Because of little things” is the beginning of a poem by Friedrich Hölderlin and it is the simple things that fascinate the artist. Who comes up with the idea of creating sounds from sand or water droplets? A central aspect of his work is the movement element that leads to sound in his installations, explains Bleffert. Sounds arise from movement and touch “and that in turn touches me,” says Bleffert.

Regina Hellwig-Schmid, initiator of the donumenta exhibition, has invited the sound artist Bernd Bleffert. According to Bleffert, the great challenge of this room is the change from absolute silence and an often very loud background noise, which he cannot influence. Sounds can be activated, but they cannot be precisely planned. Sounds are hard to grasp, they have a brief present. Bleffert explains: “For me, it is a requirement and objective to create beautiful sounds”.

Whether and how the artist succeeded in doing this, the audience can perhaps get an impression of it. If the pandemic allows – hope rests on the time from mid-April – the donumenta artists would like to open the exhibition for a personal encounter with the world of sound under the train tracks. The film about it on youtube (www.donumenta.de/art-lab-gleis-1/künstlerinnen/) certainly generates great anticipation. (mwx)
