Half of the Repsol refinery will be shut down for a month due to maintenance works and the incorporation of new technologies. The other half will work normally. During the first days the torch fire may be greater than usual, a normal circumstance in this phase of the process and fully controlled. The oil company plans to invest 23.5 million euros in the works.
22 units and about 1,000 pieces of equipment will be reviewed and 44 actions will be carried out to introduce the latest technologies and increase the efficiency of the processes. In addition to its own personnel, more than 1,000 professionals from auxiliary companies will work daily at the stop. For these jobs, Repsol has hired 60 companies, more than half Galician. The security coordination group will consist of more than 120 people and will work 24 hours a day. In this industrial complex, 1,000 people work directly and indirectly and another 3,000 jobs are generated through the daily activity of the refinery.
