a chain collision on the A1 motorway …

Friday, June 26, 2020, around 9:40 p.m., on the A1 Yverdon-les-Bains – Lausanne motorway, near Sarraz, the driver of a passenger car registered in the canton of Vaud was surprised by the slowdown in traffic due to a work area, bi-directional. Her vehicle struck the car registered in Germany, which was in front of her. Under the effect of the shock, the latter in turn collided with the Vaud-type vehicle in front. Following these collisions, traffic was completely interrupted on this motorway axis.

Several people were killed in this accident, including a woman of around 50, living in the Lausanne region, who was seriously injured. Two children, 4 and 8 years old, who were in the German license plate car were also injured. They must have been jailed. The days of the three victims are not in danger. The driver of the third vehicle, a man of around 50, resident in the canton of Vaud, was not injured.

The children were taken to Morges hospital. As for the driver in her fifties, she was evacuated to the CHUV in Lausanne.

The A1 motorway was closed until 6:00 a.m. for operational purposes. The DELESTA traffic management plan has been activated.

This event required the intervention of 3 ambulances, SMUR, 3 Gendarmerie patrols and staff from the Directorate General of Mobility and Roads. The SDIS Lausanne and SDIS Plaine de l’Orbe firefighters also traveled with an intervention train.

The duty prosecutor opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this accident. The investigations were entrusted to the mobile intervention units of the Vaud gendarmerie.
