A British ranking placed Burgas among the 9 cheapest cities for housing – 2024-03-07 07:28:53

Three of the nine cheapest cities in Europe are located in the same country, and two of them are in Bulgaria – Burgas and Plovdiv.

This is according to a survey by the British publication Express, according to which Bitola, North Macedonia, claims the first place, followed by Chisinau in Moldova.

One country is ahead with three cities on the list – Craiova, Sibiu and Oradea, all of which are located in Romania and made the list of the cheapest cities to buy a property.

Situated on both sides of the Crisu Repede River, Oradea is just eight miles from the Romanian border. The city secured the ninth spot and is known as a center for both economic and cultural endeavours.

The city is growing fast compared to others in Romania. Many changes are happening in the infrastructure of the city, such as reconstructions of old buildings and construction of new ones. The average price for an apartment of 100 m² is about BGN 323,744.

With a population of just over 183,000, it is the 9th largest city in the country. The city’s infrastructure is first-rate and continuous investment is fueling its growth and making it a better place to live.

The next Romanian city in the ranking is the historic Sibiu.

The city boasts numerous museums, including the famous Astra National Museum, the largest open-air exhibition space in Europe. The average price for an apartment of 100 m² is approximately BGN 300,697.

The most accessible among Romanian cities is Craiova. One can live in it with an average monthly budget of only BGN 1,060. There are also several famous tourist attractions that add to its beauty.

Craiova is home to the largest natural park in Central and Eastern Europe – Nicolae Romanescu Park. The park covers 100 hectares and was designed by the French architect Edouard Redon.

Craiova’s museums (Museum of Art – Jean Mihail Pallace, Bănia House, Oltenia Museum) house masterpieces and artefacts ranging from works by Constantin Brancusi to a 30,000-year-old skull of a woman.

Of course, they all pale in comparison to Bitola. The average price of a 100 m² apartment would be BGN 177,995.

The Bulgarian representatives in the ranking are Plovdiv and Burgas, although average prices are not indicated.
