The mayor of Santa Cruz, Patricia Hernández, has written on her official Twitter account that Endesa is trying to restore the light and they have reported that the electric current will return in six hours.
In statements to Cadena SER, the mayor of Santa Cruz explained that Endesa “has not detected any problem in its facilities”, despite the fact that the cut may come from a supply failure. However, Hernández has confirmed that the light begins to reset in some “very small” areas such as La Laguna and La Orotava where the energy has already returned.

The outage has also affected hospitals that continue to operate thanks to generators, in addition to communication failures and coverage on mobile phones. According to the Cabildo de Tenerife, they are in permanent contact with Endesa. For the moment, Tenerife firefighters have intervened in more than 30 incidents in elevators in the metropolitan area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Last blackout in 2010
Tenerife has already experienced a general blackout in 2010. A failure in the Las Caletillas substation dragged the entire electrical system in Tenerife during 5-6 hours. An event that occurred the second time in just ten days and affected almost a million people.
