Little Boyana is only 2 years old and in March this year she was diagnosed with Krabbe’s disease (sphingolipidosis), also known as globoid cell leukodystrophy or galactosylceremid lipidosis, a rare and often fatal metabolic disease.
Two weeks later, two consecutive MRIs, two shifted hospital wards, a spinal puncture, dozens of body piercings for tests, anesthetics, unsuccessful intravenous treatment and rehabilitation, Boyana returned home in a worsened condition and unable to walk. alone.
At the moment, Boyana can control to some extent only her left hand. He is not able to sit upright on his own, to stand up from a lying position, to eat alone, to play freely.
Unfortunately, in Bulgaria medicine can do nothing to save her, and doctors do not give a chance to survive. Boyana’s only hope for life is a bone marrow transplant (allogeneic transplant) which will slow the progression of the disease and at a later stage – gene therapy.
