New York 2021 show postponed to August | Automotive News

The organizers of the New York Auto Show have, once again, bowed to the dictates of the coronavirus: once again, the event will be postponed. The 2021 edition which was supposed to take place in April is now scheduled for August next year.

Recall that this year’s show was postponed from April to August due to the pandemic raging in New York in the spring and early summer. It was subsequently canceled completely. Today, even six months before the event scheduled for April 2021, it has become evident that the situation may not be restored in time; this is why we are going with another postponement.

That’s why the official press day for the 2021 New York Auto Show is now August 19, with the doors opening to the public the next day.

According to the magazine Automotive News, the decision to postpone the show is not limited to the coronavirus, however. Relocating the event to August will allow organizers to use an expanded Jacob Javits Center that will provide up to 100,000 square feet of additional exhibit space.

And of course, that comes against the backdrop of all the auto shows being reorganized around the calendar. Last month it was announced that the Los Angeles Auto Show would be moved from November to next May; that the Detroit show would be postponed from June to the end of September 2021; that the Frankfurt Motor Show, which normally occupies this niche, would be brought forward to mid-September; and that the Geneva Motor Show (March) would not take place at all in 2021.

Here at home, the organizers of the Quebec and Calgary auto shows have announced that the 2021 editions have simply been canceled. The Montreal Auto Show in January will be virtual only.
