Eight thousand people in the north of Moravia refuse to pay tolls

The petition was originally backed by thirteen mayors, joined by another twelve. “In a total of twenty-five municipalities, the petition sheets have been signed by over eight thousand people who do not want to pay a fee for a journey that does not even remotely resemble a motorway,” said Jana Matějíková from the mayor’s office.

According to her, the Ministry of Transport is currently running comments on the decree, which can be abolished on tolls in this section, more precisely, in which this section can be excluded from the list of toll roads. The Moravian-Silesian Region did the same, requesting that the D56 motorway toll in the section between Frýdek-Místek and Ostrava be abolished.

“We find it absurd to pay a motorway toll due to a several-kilometer section that does not even follow the highway and is often repaired, so drivers still have to keep an eye on not only the speed, but also focus on traffic cones and makeshift lines. This drives a lot of drivers to the districts leading through the surrounding villages, where traffic is increasing and the associated noise, dust and increased exhaust emissions, “reads the so-called petition guide.

“Thank you to all those who signed the petition, because without them, negotiations on the abolition of the toll would have a very limited chance of a positive outcome. I want to believe that our voices, more precisely the votes of more than eight thousand people who have signed the petitions, will hear in Prague and make the Minister of Transport deal with the situation and also take a specific position on it, “said Deputy Mayor Karel Deutscher (CSSD). ).

He will virtually meet with Deputy Minister of Transport Luďek Sosná to discuss the problem. “It will take place on October 12 via a video call and I assume that my colleagues from the surrounding municipalities who took part in the event will also be present,” Deutscher added.

The Petitions Committee was composed of representatives of 13 municipalities and parts of Ostrava – namely Frýdek-Místek, Sviadnov, Paskov, Žabeň, Krmelín, Řepiště, Staříč, Fryčovice, Ostrava-Proskovice, Ostrava-Nova Bělá, Ostrava-Stará Bělá, Ostrava- Hrabová and Ostrava-South.

Other municipalities also took an active part, having petition sheets available at their offices for the abolition of the toll between Frýdek-Místek and Ostrava. Those interested could also sign them in Kozlovice, Brušperk, Vratimov, Nižní Lhoty, Nošovice, Dobratice, the Old Town, Dolní Domaslavice, Dobrá, Raškovice, but also in Hukvaldy and Pražma.
