With the unveiling of the new Subaru Levorg, Subaru is not sure how to cause a shock in the automotive world, because the appearance of the newcomer had no more surprises in store. Just a year ago Subaru dropped one very production-ready prototype and at the beginning of this year, the same car was also already in a STI Sport jacket. The actual production version was recently released even shown and profil. Today, however, the official starting gun for the new Levorg sounds and it looks very familiar.
In general, the Levorg remains faithful to the lines of the first generation that have passed away, although it is all just a bit more contemporary and sharper in shape. Especially at the front, the Levorg is less obedient than before, with the somewhat sharper headlights, the sharply projecting grille and the slightly higher placed air scoop in the hood. In STI Sport trim (the dark gray in the photos) it looks really nice and sporty.
The interior of the Levorg is also completely new. A striking feature is the substantial information screen with air grilles that evoke Swedish associations. In any case, it looks a lot tidier and above all considerably more modern. From now on, most of the functions can be operated via the touchscreen.

The new Levorg, unlike the previous one, is on the modular Subaru Global Platform. The current Impreza, among other things, is already on that basis. It should make the Levorg stiffer and lighter, although it is still guessing how much the now 4.75 centimeter long station wagon weighs. One thing is certain: the 1.6- (delivered here in the Netherlands) and 2.0-four-cylinder boxer engines with turbo from the Levorg that are swinging off we will not find it anymore. From now on, a blown 1.8-boxer engine with four burners is in service. It delivers 174 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Precise performance figures will remain under wraps for a while. Don’t let the sportier-looking STI Sport confuse you. It just has the same power source. Of course we have to wait for a WRX STI version, although it is not yet certain whether it will come.
For the time being, this is only about the Japanese Levorg, the European version is still waiting. It remains to be seen how relevant it will be for us, because in the Netherlands the current Levorg unfortunately knows how to find few buyers. Since the Dutch introduction year 2015, 115 have left the showroom. Last year, the counter stopped on one copy. The high bpm is of course an important cause of this.
More information about this Japanese Levorg will probably follow in two days. The introduction in the homeland is scheduled for mid-October.
