The city of Orlando in Florida can call itself the world capital of amusement parks. Nowhere else are there so many amusement parks in such a small space. It all started with the opening of the Walt Disney World Resort of almost 50 years.
With 15,000 hectares, the resort with its four theme and two water parks is still the largest leisure complex in the world in terms of area. As a result of this magical attraction, other parks have settled in the region, including Sea World, Universal Orlando Studio, Gatorland and the Holy Land Experience.
The latter is one of the weirdest institutions, aimed at a less broad target group. In the park, which is completely focused on biblical themes, there are no rides, but among other things the multi-storey replica of the Temple of Jerusalem and a museum collection of special Bible editions.
Theater is also played here every day. No matter what time of year people visit the park, there is always “crucification season” in the afternoon. In other words, the Passion Play is celebrated every day.
In just an hour, viewers who previously bought a $ 50 entry ticket will experience the full Easter holiday, from Good Friday to Easter Sunday’s resurrection, all reenacted by actors.
When the park, which was created by Baptist pastor Marvin Rosenthal, was opened in 2001, the “experience” was considered controversial. There have been protests by the Jewish Defense League. Today the park belongs to the Christian TV station Trinity Broadcasting Network.
Spectator numbers seem to have declined recently as the administration has been forced to fire dozens of employees. The park also had to close on March 14 due to the Coranavirus, as well as other Orlando leisure facilities.
