Jesus in Florida – the daily crucifixion in the amusement park

The city of Orlando in Florida can call itself the world capital of amusement parks. Nowhere else are there so many amusement parks in such a small space. It all started with the opening of the Walt Disney World Resort of almost 50 years.

With 15,000 hectares, the resort with its four theme and two water parks is still the largest leisure complex in the world in terms of area. As a result of this magical attraction, other parks have settled in the region, including Sea World, Universal Orlando Studio, Gatorland and the Holy Land Experience.

The latter is one of the weirdest institutions, aimed at a less broad target group. In the park, which is completely focused on biblical themes, there are no rides, but among other things the multi-storey replica of the Temple of Jerusalem and a museum collection of special Bible editions.

Theater is also played here every day. No matter what time of year people visit the park, there is always “crucification season” in the afternoon. In other words, the Passion Play is celebrated every day.

In just an hour, viewers who previously bought a $ 50 entry ticket will experience the full Easter holiday, from Good Friday to Easter Sunday’s resurrection, all reenacted by actors.

The world’s first guitar-style hotel was opened with a gigantic light show. The vacation region “Great Fort Lauderdale” in Florida is one more attraction. The “Seminole Hard Rock Hotel” was supplemented by a spectacular extension for 1.3 billion euros. The luxury hotel in the form of a giant guitar rises 137 meters. The building is particularly effective in the dark: six light rays represent the guitar strings. But the hotel is not only an eye-catcher from the outside: due to the extension, the house now has more than 1200 rooms. Guests can also visit overwater bungalows, a lagoon and an artificial beach. The associated casino area was also almost doubled in area. The gaming area now offers guests over 3,000 slot machines and a poker room with 45 tables. A large event hall can accommodate up to 6500 spectators. With the new extension, the hotel is preparing itself for the Superbowl, which will bring many people to Florida in February.

When the park, which was created by Baptist pastor Marvin Rosenthal, was opened in 2001, the “experience” was considered controversial. There have been protests by the Jewish Defense League. Today the park belongs to the Christian TV station Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Spectator numbers seem to have declined recently as the administration has been forced to fire dozens of employees. The park also had to close on March 14 due to the Coranavirus, as well as other Orlando leisure facilities.
