13:24 – Kevin Magnussen was not happy with Red Bull driver Alexander Albon after the failed overtaking at the end of the opening lap in the British GP. Magnussen ended up in the gravel pit while Albon had to limit the damage from reverse.
Due to an error when Club came out, Magnussen was vulnerable to following traffic. The door was wide open for Albon, the British Thai had no doubts and put his RB16 on the inside at Magnussen. The Haas driver then simply turned in, after which Albon made an ultimate attempt to slow down his car. However, it was not enough to avoid contact. At the exit of the last corner, Magnussen ended up in the tire pile. Albon sustained a damaged Red Bull from the incident and received a five-second time penalty.
Magnussen did not understand why Albon started his action so quickly. “By the time I saw him it was much too late to give him space,” the Dane replied. “I think he could easily have waited a little longer. His car is faster, he could have easily overtaken me. I don’t think it would have been difficult for him if he hadn’t taken that much risk there. He could have taken me the next corner He certainly had no wrong intention, but he just didn’t judge the situation best. “
Albon, like team boss Christian Horner, thought it was a racing incident. He fought back in the slot and finished in eighth place. “Kevin went off the track and came back, but there was room,” Albon said of the incident. “I realized that he didn’t see me when he closed the hole. I tried to avoid him, but it went too fast. I had damage to my car, which is a pity. The speed during the race was not bad, we have had a difficult weekend. P8 is of course not what I want, but we have been able to limit the damage. “
