According to information from our colleagues at RTL Info, every day two police reports were to motorists who were too slow in 2019, i.e. 650 reports over the year. In Belgium, for example, it is prohibited to drive below 70 km / h on the motorway. Excessive speed can indeed, like speeding, cause road accidents.
500 of the 650 reports intended for these drivers were drawn up on roads and 150 on motorways.
Each year, a dozen people are killed or seriously injured following an accident involving a driver driving below the regulatory limit. Driving slowly is not a guarantee of safety, but the reverse is even less so. Excessive speed remains the main cause of death on Belgian roads and is responsible for one in three fatal accidents.
