Minister reports increase in Tilapia production to meet global demand – ANTARA News

The Ministry of Marine and Fisheries in Indonesia is ramping up tilapia production to meet global demand for the commodity, which is estimated to reach $13.9bn in 2023. Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono is keen to develop tilapia cultivation centres along Central Java’s north coast to replace shrimp commodities. Indonesia’s main fishery export commodities include shrimp, tuna, skipjack, cuttlefish, octopus, and crabs, as they have been in recent years. Trenggono aims to grab a share in the market of five main fishery commodities at the global level, including shrimp, lobster, crab, tilapia, and seaweed, in competition with major fish-producing countries.
