The day after losing 1-0 away to Tottenham and dropping points in the race for the league title, Manchester City have been given another problem to deal with.
An independent investigation, carried out at the behest of the Premier League, shows that the reigning champion club has breached the financial regulations on several occasions between 2009-2018.
The investigation, which took four years to complete, found, among other things, that Man City failed to provide “accurate financial information which gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position” as well as “full details of coaching remuneration in relevant contracts”.
During the period, City won the league title on three occasions: 2012, 2014 and 2018.
The violations will be further investigated by an independent committee.
According to AP, the Premier League’s regulations allow City to be punished with hefty fines and points deducted.
