It turns out that from here the names Gopek, Goceng and Ceban

Jakarta

Some people use other terms for nominal rupiah money certain. For example, Rp. 10,000 is called ceban, Rp. 5,000 is called godeng, and Rp. 500 is called gopek.

But maybe not everyone knows where the mention of these denominations of money comes from.

Quoted from the Instagram account @peruri.indonesia, this term is a Chinese number commonly used by Chinese with a Hokkien dialect to transact and trade with Indonesian people.

This has gradually become embedded in Indonesian society. Peruri explained that initially this nominal term developed in Jakarta.

“Along with the development of ethnic Chinese in big cities, this term has also expanded, and has even officially become Indonesian and is recorded in the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI),” he wrote, quoted, Friday (27/1/2023).

Peruri said the mention of gocap, cepek, gopek, goceng and ceban was often used to replace certain nominal Rupiah amounts.

“Starting from the people of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek), to Medan and Makassar,” he wrote.
