The Canadian court will soon consider a class action against Epic Games, the developer of the popular game Fortnite. Three parents complain that gambling is as addictive as drugs.
Parents believe that Fortnite has caused physical and psychological symptoms in their children, including migraines, back pain and social problems. The game would also encourage players to spend excessive amounts of money. The game itself is free to play, but players can make optional purchases.
One of the children allegedly spent more than 6,000 Canadian dollars (4,100 euros). Parents are demanding compensation and a refund for purchases made by underage players on Fortnite. Epic Games says there is not enough evidence. For example, there would be no expert report on file or a medical diagnosis of addiction. In April, the company already agreed to a $26.5 million settlement in the US state of North Carolina regarding minor signings.
