Bundesliga during a World Cup break: how Bayern, BVB and co spend the winter

An unusual situation for all Bundesliga clubs: through the W.M in Qatar the winter break is anticipated and longer than ever. The 15th and final Bundesliga matchday of 2022 took place on November 13. The national team players logically went straight to the World Cup quarter-finals, but how is it actually going for the other professionals in their clubs? Which club goes to winter break when and who is on a retreat where? Of the SPORTBUZZER, the sports portal of Publishing Network Germany (RND), provides an overview of the schedules of the 18 Bundesliga clubs during the World Cup break.

Bayern Monaco

Of the German record champions lays after the last Bundesliga-Spiel des Jahres takes a week off from training, then continues training with the few remaining foreigners until 9 December. Then it’s winter break. Nagelsmann and company begin preparing for the rest of the Bundesliga season on 3 January. From 6 to 12 January there is a training camp in Qatar, host country of the World Cup, where Nagelsmann’s team already knows its way around. Test matches are planned, but when and against whom is open. Bayern Munich will meet RB Leipzig in their Bundesliga debut on 20 January.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund is touring Asia from 21 November to 1 December – PR trip will include test matches in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam. Training in Germany is scheduled for December 2-11, followed by a break until early January. A training camp is said to be on the agenda before the Bundesliga restarts at Signal Iduna Park on January 22 when they meet FC Augsburg.

RB Leipzig

to RB Leipzig he will continue training for the first three weeks and will be tested against Polish club Radomiak Radom (November 25) and Danish AC Horsens (December 2). RB coach Marco Rose then sends his pros on holiday to travel to training camp in Abu Dhabi for ten days on 2 January. In the first match of the new year there will be a top match against Bayern (January 20).

Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt goes to Japan for a tour from November 14 to 20. As part of this trip, a friendly against Gamba Osaka will take place on 19 November. But SGE professionals should also be able to experience their cultures: a Kyoto temple visit and sword fight are planned. Schalke 04

For the pros of the risk of relegation Schalke 04 he goes on vacation from 16 to 30 November. On 1 December, coach Thomas Reis therefore calls for the start of winter preparations, in which two friendlies abroad and one on 22 December at VfL Osnabrück will take place. Players have one more day off during Christmas and the turn of the year until retirement begins in early January. As the Bundesliga kicks off into the new year, S04 will take on Eintracht Frankfurt on 21 January.

SV Werder Bremen

VfB Stuttgart

Stuttgart The winter break kicks off with a trip to Texas in the United States (14-21 November) which includes a test against Bundesliga rivals Cologne on 19 November. This will probably be followed by two weeks of holidays, followed by training until just before Christmas. A withdrawal may be pending in January, planning is still incomplete. It is unclear who will be on the sidelines in the match against Mainz 05 on 21 January. Interim head coach Michael Wimmer is currently in charge, but for how long is unclear.

FC Augsburg

Even the FC Augsburg divides the winter break into two blocks: First, the pros have free time until the beginning of December, work with individual training plans and then train until just before Christmas. Test matches are also expected to take place during this training block, but nothing is known about them yet. After the New Year, the “Fuggerstädter” will begin their final preparations for matchday 16 of the Bundesliga against Borussia Dortmund (January 22) with a training camp in the south.

Mainz 05

Mainz 05 two trips to Spain: Bo Svensson’s team will go to Mallorca for a training camp from 5 to 12 December, and at the start of the new year on 4 January the Mainz team will be in Marbella for a week. In both away games two test matches will be played. Mainz are due to play VfB Stuttgart at the start of the new Bundesliga year (January 21).

VfL Bochum

Bochum-Coach Thomas Letsch does not let his players train between November 16 and 27 and lets them train until December 22. Meanwhile, VfL are playing two friendlies against Karlsruher SC (December 10) and SC Paderborn (December 16). After a second rest period from 22 December to 2 January, VfL will travel to Jerez de la Frontera in Spain for a training camp from 7 to 14 January after the first training sessions in Bochum. On the 16th match day of the Bundesliga, Bochum will host Hertha BSC (January 21).
