Yankees and Red Sox Share Interest in Kodai Senga (Report)

The Yankees and the Red Sox battle each year in the American League East. They’ve also battled for some of the best free agents in years. And that could be the case this off-season when it comes to Japan’s right-hand man Kodai Senga.

Both clubs have been in contact with representatives for the 29-year-old, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. The report isn’t surprising, given that both New York and Boston are looking for more depth in their rotations.

While Senga doesn’t quite fit the profile of the MLB ace, he has been very successful in Japan, where he posted a 1.94 ERA in 2022. His impressive fastball pace and solid split-finger fastball they served to attract the attention of various major league teams.

This is not to mention the fact that the Japanese is an unrestricted free agent, with no amateur fee tied to him, unlike other free agents like Carlos Rodón or Nathan Eovaldi, who received the qualifying offer.

Of course, this also applies to other teams interested in Senga besides the Yankees and Red Sox. In fact, the Giants, Mets and Padres have all been linked to the Japanese this offseason.
