Apple so far not launched iPhone folding screen even if it is far behind its competitors. Even Apple was overtaken by a Chinese YouTuber who managed to make the first iPhone with a folding screen.
The foldable iPhone screen is the creation of a YouTuber from The Aesthetic of Science and Technology (AST) channel. In a 17-minute video uploaded to YouTube, they explain the tricky steps to making a foldable iPhone.
This folding screen iPhone uses a clamshell design in the style of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. But the YouTuber chose to use the Motorola Razr’s frame and hinge design due to the wrinkles on the smaller screen.
In addition to the Motorola Razr chassis, the AST team also makes its own components made using a 3D printer and an iPhone X screen made more flexible. All internal components of the iPhone X have been moved and rearranged to fit inside the Motorola Razr chassis.
They also take advantage of iOS jaikbreak to run Apple software on these devices and bring fold-screen phone-style features like split screen mode.
The result is a device that looks like the iPhone X paired with the Galaxy Z Flip. The phone, dubbed iPhone V version 0.1, looks functional, runs iOS, and has a fully folded screen.
But, iPhone folding screen the DIY version is certainly not perfect. The screen cannot be closed completely and there is a sufficiently large blank area when the phone screen is folded.
The AST team also had to sacrifice some internal components to save space. Battery capacity is only 1,000mAh, there is no MagSafe wireless charging, and the phone has only one speaker, as quoted by Engadget, Thursday (11/10/2022).
This isn’t the first time engineers have modified an iPhone into a more sophisticated device. Previously, an engineer and student named Ken Pillonel created the world’s first USB-C iPhone.
Apple itself is reportedly developing a prototype iPhone folding screen. But until now, there is no solid information on the shape of the Apple-designed iPhone folding screen or when the product will be launched.
