The queen and her love of dogs were legendary. On her eighteenth birthday, she was given her first corgi by her father, King George VI. She named her Susan. The British queen had more than 30 corgis in her life, almost all of them descendants of Susan.
Later the Dorgis were added, a cross between a corgi and a dachshund. In 2013, the dog breeding program was halted, reportedly because the queen did not want to leave the young dogs behind after her death. Susan’s last descendant died in 2018.
