Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau on death Jaime Lannister: “Almost donated to petition to remake last season”

It has been over a year since that Game of Thrones-fans Jaime Lannister by the side of his twin sister /lover Cersei saw die. And a lot of those people are still angry about that end. But actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau? He thinks it’s funny.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has been on stage and in front of the camera for over 30 years, but the whole world immediately sees the Danish actor as Jaime Lannister Game of Thrones. The character was one of the most hated early in the series, because of course he was the one who pushed young Bran Stark out of the window, leaving the boy paralyzed.

Storyline in the trash can

But through Game of Thrones evolved the Kingslayer huge, and by the end of the series he was among the more popular characters. That evolution especially started when he stepped away from his toxic (and enormously incestuous) relationship with his twin sister Cersei. In the end he was even next to it Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and the remaining Starks during the Battle of Winterfell.

But all that was thrown away by the character himself after that fight against the white walkers (finally!) declared his love without words to Brienne or Tarth and then simply returned to Cersei. The twins were together when Daenerys attacked King’s Landing, and became buried together under the stones.

No happy end

Quite a few fans were huge disappointed about the ending of Jaime and Cersei Lannister. But that was exactly what they should have expected, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau told shortly after the broadcast of the latter Game of Thrones-season. Ramsay Bolton said it best: ‘If you think this is one happy end you haven’t paid attention ‘”, it sounded then.

And now the actor has talked about his ending again. During an interview with Variety (about his latest film The Silencing) it was of course also briefly over Game of Thrones. “I actually didn’t follow it at all,” he said when he got a question about the ending of Jaime Lannister, the series and the disappointment among fans.

“Everyone wants a certain thing”

“I’ve heard about it, of course. And I also know there was a petition to redo the ending. I thought that was hilarious. I almost wanted to donate! I think everyone had their own opinion about it. I find the fan world very interesting. Everyone wants something, and that’s not what they got. ”

“It’s a combination of things. On the one hand, you imagine an ending, and on the other … I think if you have a hardcore fan that it was very shocking that it came to an end. Those people lived with this (and before) for eight seasons. ”
