Doha: As part of the World Patient Safety Day and Qatar Patient Safety Week, Aster DM Healthcare, one of the main hospitals in Qatar, has organized various awareness programs. As part of the global patient safety campaign, Doha Aster Hospital was decorated in orange. World Patient Safety Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the safety of patients and healthcare professionals. The theme for this year’s World Patient Safety Day is “Drug Safety”. Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health is organizing Patient Safety Week as part of its effort to educate the public about the importance of treatment. The campaign, which ran from 17 to 22 September, raised awareness among patients and healthcare professionals about the importance of drug safety. According to the World Health Organization, 50% of medically preventable diseases are caused by drugs. Recognizing this problem and the complexity of drug-related harm reduction and prevention, the 2022 World Health Day theme, titled Medicines Without Harm, was chosen as the pharmacovigilance theme.

Medicines are the most used elements in healthcare and treatment.

Much of the harm caused by unsafe healthcare is drug related.

COO Kapil Chib said the Aster campaign is part of support for WHO efforts to address disease safety challenges. He added that safe drugs underscore the importance of adopting and promoting a safe drug delivery system to reduce and prevent medication errors and drug-related morbidity.
