The shelling violated almost all seven indispensable components of the station’s nuclear and radiation safety, the organization admitted.

There is currently no immediate nuclear threat at the Zaporozhye NPP, declare at the IAEA.

They recalled that on August 6, shelling was recorded near the dry storage of spent nuclear fuel at the ZNPP, which caused some damage, but the available radiation measurements continue to show its normal level on the spot.

It is also noted that there was no visible damage to either the fuel containers or the protective perimeter of the facility.

In the process, the shelling damaged communication cables that are part of his radiation monitoring system, which could affect the operation of three radiation detection sensors.

The IAEA noted that the shelling violated almost all seven irreplaceable components of nuclear and radiation safety, including those related to the physical integrity of the nuclear power plant, the functioning of safety and security systems, the provision of personnel and external power sources.

“Following the incident, Ukraine reported to the IAEA that plant personnel restricted access to the ZNPP internal crisis center, which could potentially affect the response in case of an emergency, even if access to an external center remains possible,” the statement said.

In addition, the IAEA added that the Ukrainian regulator SNRIU said that its communication with the Zaporizhzhya NPP was “very limited and fragmented.”

The head of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi, once again stated the need for the organization’s expert mission to arrive at the station as soon as possible “to help stabilize the situation with nuclear safety.”

Recall that on August 6, the Russian aggressors fired twice at the ZNPP. Power unit No. 4 was switched off at the station. Energoatom reported that as a result of shelling damaged nitrogen-oxygen station and a joint auxiliary building.
