The health authorities of Mexico reported this Wednesday May 6 that the accumulated COVID-19 infections are 27,634. Furthermore, since the beginning of the epidemic, Mexico has suffered 2,704 fatalities.
Among the positives to the disease, there are 7,149 active patients in the countryThat is, they had symptoms at some point in the last 14 days and therefore can infect others.
The increase in confirmed cases from this Tuesday, May 5 to this Wednesday, May 6 was 6.2%, with 1,609 positives, the largest recorded so far during the entire epidemic, which began in late February.
The suspicious cases, meanwhile, are already 17,553. The negatives total 65,807 patients, which gives a grand total of 110,944 people studied so far.
Among the confirmed positives, the Mexico City is the one that accumulates the most so far: 7,521 people. They are followed by the State of Mexico, with 4,661 patients and Baja California, with 2,097. Colima, with 31 confirmed, in addition to Durango, with 91, and Zacatecas, with 119, are the entities with the fewest cases so far.
In the active cases section, also the Mexican capital leads the number of positives, with 1,875, followed by the State of Mexico, with 1,046 and followed, by far, Baja California and Tabasco, with 295 and 294 infected people, respectively.
Colima, meanwhile, has just six active cases at the moment, followed by Durango with 34 people and Baja California Sur, with 43.
The incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants is 5.59, with three most intense points in the country: the Valley of Mexico, the southeast and the northwest of the Republic. Mexico City tops the highest rate, above 20 per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Morelia and Yucatan, below 15.
Further, the health authorities specified that there are 234 suspected deaths of COVID-19 that they could eventually join the column of confirmed coronavirus fatalities. The CDMX, with 604 deaths, followed by Baja California (326) and the State of Mexico (244), are the entities with the most deaths so far.
The undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, specified that, thanks to the fact that Mexican society had managed to “flatten” the contagion curve up to 74% thanks to the basic measures of social distancing, the forecast for the peak of contagion had changed.
And is that, if the health authorities had warned that the peak would begin this May 6, López-Gatell specified that it had been delayed for May 8, that is, for this Friday. “We cannot win on all fronts: if the curve is reduced, the time of the epidemic is expanded,” said the official.
Against this background, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador indicated that the states of Puebla, Veracruz and Morelos must take precautions, since they are red foci of active cases of coronavirus. It was also detailed that the Plan DN-III and Plan Marina will come into operation to bring fans to states that require it.
