$36 million for sewage in Fredericton

$36 million will be invested in water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure in Fredericton.

Two projects related to wastewater treatment and water supply in Fredericton will receive funding of up to $36 million from the three governments.

The first project is the upgrades to the Barkers Point Wastewater Treatment Plant. They will reduce the likelihood of failures and water loss at the facility, which will lessen the impact of these problems on nearby water bodies.

The second project is the renewal of water treatment infrastructure in the streets of the city for the next five years.

The federal government will contribute $14.6 million and will be under the Investing in Canada infrastructure program. The provincial government will contribute $12.1 million and the City of Fredericton will contribute $9.7 million to both projects.

“Upgrading and modernizing water, wastewater and stormwater management infrastructure in Fredericton will allow the community to better meet the demands for these services, while increasing its ability to manage climate change,” said Fredericton MP Jenica Atwin.
