«Rīgas ritmi» brings together world-renowned artists and unheard talents / Article

The music festival “Rīgas ritmi” takes place in the capital every year at the beginning of July for the twenty-second time. The stages of the festival in Riga bring together world-renowned and award-winning artists, as well as new and unheard of talents. As the organizers of the festival emphasize, preference is given to artists who have not performed at the festival before. This year’s most anticipated event is the performance of five jazz legends and the group “Modern Standards Supergroup” in the historic garden of Riga Cathedral.

Māris Briežkalns, the artistic director of the “Rīgas ritmi” festival, admitted that “I didn’t expect to get them to Riga, because it’s a festival group and of course everyone has their own projects. Well, it all turned out that they are here in Riga and playing, and, as I already mentioned, I don’t know when we will have the opportunity to see such five legends of fiction again.”

The group’s repertoire consisted of jazz improvisations made from popular world pop hits. Each of the musicians is a unique personality, with an unrepeatable creative career, which culminated in the prestigious “Gremmy” award of the music recording industry.

After the performance of the outstanding musicians and the audience’s standing ovation, the young and promising local singer Paula Saija with the group “Very Cool People” took the stage in the garden of the Riga Cathedral. The festival “Rigas ritmi” with various concerts will continue until Saturday.
