From an exterior perspective, the Lightyear 0 is in line with the conceptual Lightyear One, which was unveiled in 2019, although it has undergone some changes that are inevitable in adapting the experimental design to the requirements of production vehicles. Compared to the prototype, the production car stands out with different headlights, recessed door handles and moved rear view cameras (it was in the corners of the door but now in the front wings).

The body of the electric car is subject to the goal of maximum rationalization – so it has a drop shape with a roof that blends evenly with the long rear end. Buyers will be able to order aerodynamic shields for the discs. The Lightyear 0 has a coefficient of aerodynamic drag of only 0.19. By comparison, the Tesla Model 3 has a ratio of 0.23, which is 21% worse.

All exterior panels are made of carbon fiber, while the interior is made of recycled materials, including fabric from PET bottle fibers, faux leather and inexpensive rattan trim. The car has five seats and a luggage compartment with a capacity of 640 liters. The unladen weight of the machine – 1575 kg.

The Lightyear 0 can travel up to 625 km on a full charge. Two solar panels with a total area of 5 square meters are glued to the roof and cover of the car. Thanks to them alone, the reach of the car increases by 70 km. In ideal conditions, solar panels can produce 11 thousand kilometers of energy per year. The panels also benefit from a cloudy climate and it translates to up to 35 free kilometers a day.

The Dutch car stands out with its amazingly low energy consumption of only 10.5 kWh per 100 kilometers. The traction battery has a capacity of 60 kWh and can be charged up to 80% in one hour from the quick charging station.

Lightyear 0 small-scale production will be organized at the Valmet plant in Finland. The preliminary price of the car on the European market is 250,000 euros. Deliveries of the machines to the first customers are planned for November 2022.
