17 goals at Detroit rifle festival! – Hockey-News.info

Last night, hockey fans probably got their money’s worth in Detroit’s “Little Caesars Arena”. No fewer than 17 (!) goals were scored in the encounter between the Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This makes the game one of the highest-scoring in NHL history. The record is 21 goals scored on December 11, 1985 between the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks. The last time a team scored ten goals in a game, Alexander Radulov and Max Pacioretty were forwards for the Montreal Canadiens, who then also swept the Detroit Red Wings off the ice with ten goals – the final score at the time: 10-1 for Montreal.

In the duel between Toronto and Detroit, a crack showed up very well: Mitchell Marner, who was heavily criticized after a rather weak playoff, scored four goals and two assists – for the 24-year-old it was the first NHL hat-trick. Super goal scorer Auston Matthews collected four points, offseason newcomer Michael Bunting even contributed five points. So this attacking series came to six goals and nine assists. With 68 points, Matthews is already in 4th place in the NHL-wide scoring ranking, 38 goals is the current best.

After two thirds, the Canadians were already leading 7:2, but the game wasn’t even exciting. The Wings didn’t give up and came back to 6:7 with four hits in the first 5 minutes and 21 seconds of the final period, but in the end they had to admit defeat with 7:10. The night before, 13 goals were scored in the duel between the Chicago Blackhawks and the New Jersey Devils – the NHL is by no means lacking in “high scoring games” at the moment.
