Lost 77 Years Ago, World War II Plane Found in India

Jakarta

A plane World War II the missing has been found in a remote region Himalaya in India, after 77 years after the plane crashed with no survivors.

The find was made following a dangerous search that led to the deaths of three guides.

Reported from the news agency AFP, Friday (1/21/2022), the C-46 transport plane was carrying 13 people from Kunming, southern China, when it disappeared in a stormy weather over the mountains in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India in the first week of 1945.

“This plane was never heard of again. It just disappeared,” said Clayton Kuhles, an American who led the search mission after a request from the son of one of the passengers on the doomed plane.

The expedition took months. During the search, Kuhles and his team of guides from the local ethnic group, Lisu, waded chest-high rivers and camped in the freezing temperatures at high altitude.

Three guides died of hypothermia in the early stages of the search while camping during a snowstorm last September 2021.

However, the team finally found the plane at the top of a snow-covered mountain last month, where they were able to identify the wreckage by tail number.

There were no human remains among the wreckage of the plane.
