Guides spotted the twins, a male and a female, during a safari last weekend in the park, about 300 kilometers north of the Kenyan capital Nairobi. Video footage shows the twins exploring the area with their mother Bora and their older brother, who was born in 2017.
It’s rare for an elephant to give birth to twins, says an expert from Save the Elephants.
Female elephants have the longest gestation period of all mammals, carrying their young for nearly 22 months and giving birth approximately every four years. According to the most recent figures, there are about 36,300 elephants in Kenya.
